Randy has
been a part of the Washington Youth Soccer Association since 1970. In 1970 he
was a first year player at age 5 in Olympia, Washington. Randy was lucky to
spend over 10 seasons with the same team, The Hotshots, and later the team
changed names to The Rainier Roadrunners, with the same "core" of players. Back
in the day they played soccer all year round, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring
Seasons! At age 14 his family moved to Packwood, Washington. Packwood is a small
country town, and soccer was a foreign sport there. Randy had to travel almost 2
hours to the Centralia/Chehalis area to play soccer. He played on various teams
there including the Pepsi Nationals. In 1983 Randy got his first Coaching job in
Grays Harbor County, Coaching 6-8 year olds, where he earned his USSF "E"
License. In 1985 Randy joined the Army and
was sent off to Hawaii, where he continued to play for various Military teams
and Leagues. After arriving back in the states in 1989, He coached for a few
years for the Castle Rock Soccer Club, again specializing in the youngest group
of players 6-8, including his oldest son Jared. (Jared went on to play 3 years
of Varsity Soccer for Clarkston High School).
In 1994 Randy
and his family moved back to the Packwood area. He coached for the Lewis County
Parks and Recreation Department until 1995. It was then Randy realized he had to
make a step in the right direction for the kids! After seeing that this level of
play was good for kids, but it lacked the expertise and growth of skills for the
young players that wanted to excel at the worlds most popular sport, soccer. Randy Founded the White Pass Soccer Club, all the while playing in various Adult
Leagues, and immediately went and earned his USSF "D" License in 1995.
The White Pass Soccer Club was an immediate hit. The Club signed up 112 kids the
first season. Pretty phenomenal considering that East Lewis County is a small,
rural, thinly populated area. Randy coached 2 teams, both had a son on them.
Jordan was 4 years old, and played in the U-6 league, and dominated from the
start.......He hasn't let up since. (Jordan is a 3 year Varsity starter and Team
Captain at Clarkston
High School, and is a Junior this year).
Randy's teams
were very competitive from the get-go. A 2nd place finish in their very first year at
the U-12 level, followed by winning their league the next few years. Randy
earned the "Reebok Coach of the year" honors for 2000, and was honored at
the annual Washington Youth Soccer Associations "Soccer Fair", and given his
award by Tony DiCicco, USA Womans
National Coach, in April of that year.
After a very
successful 5 years with the White Pass Soccer Club Randy moved his family to
Eastern Washington and the great city of Clarkston. Randy continued his coaching
with both the Boys and Girls Club, and the Valley Youth Soccer Club in Lewiston,
Idaho. In 2004 Randy saw the need for a club in Clarkston, Washington, so he
Founded the Clarkston Soccer Club in 2004. The Clarkston Heat teams coached by
Randy have been one of the most competitive in the league every year, although
they have not captured a League Title.....Yet!
